About Our Tea

All of our tea leaves are hand-selected for maximum deliciousness and direct chain-of-origin. We prefer to drink our tea in the Gong Fu style, but great tea can be brewed in any fashion.

Our Ethos

At Great Lakes Tea, we source the best directly from China. If we don't like it, we don't sell it. It's that simple. We get the good stuff because we want to drink it ourselves. Fine selection, limited supply, always fresh.

Red Jacket
Red Jacket
The legendary 'Rock Tea' or 'Rock Oolong', a prized oolong hailing from the esteemed Wuyi Mountains of Fujian, boasts an enticing smoky, charred flavor. Its name is derived from a fascinating misnomer, as it was originally known as 'Red Robe'. The story of this name starts with a young scholar on the precipice of taking the imperial exam, an arduous test that would determine his fate as a powerful official at the...

Who We Are

A brief treatise on the minds behind Great Lakes Tea.
Great Lakes Tea founders holding teacups.
Who?

We're Carter & Lee! Part-time conversationalists, full time tea enthusiasts. Our goal when we started out was simple: get high grade teas in the hands of people who would never have it otherwise, and have great conversations while doing it. Great Lakes Tea is born from an existing legacy of family owned tea shops that takes great pride in the quality of each and every tea we carry, no exceptions.

Why?

When we're not gleefully sipping the latest from Canton, we're musing about art, anime, comics, movies, and games. In time, we hope to bring some of that to you! Tea is best when enjoyed with good company, and our overarching goal is to create a community that merges the worlds of pop culture and tea. Sip & slurp with likeminded folks!

What?

We've spent decades cultivating an image of class and sophistication so that we could swindle the powers that be just long enough to bring our tea leaves to aficionados like you. One Anime Supervillain and a heavily chagrined Tea Master bring you: Great Lakes Tea. A craft experiment in converting great tea into great conversations through the power of dated pop culture references and artisanal dad jokes. Although we are primarily an online storefront, we've recently begun construction on a tea lounge in downtown Chicago. Coming soon!
