Aptly named for it's aging process, this tea is one of the very few aged varietals that is not a Puer. Our Aged Oolong uses a varietal of Iron Goddess as its base, and thus shares a similar flavor profile. To better understand how our tea came to be, observe the following short story:
Once upon a time, there lived an old hermit among the mountains. This old man spent nearly every day tending to a humble tea farm next to his hut in the rocky highlands. To reach the hermit's hut, one would have to brave cracking winds and miles of ever-shifting footing up the mountainside. An arduous trek for even the most experienced of pathfinders. Yet, every morning without fail, a man would make the treacherous journey from the foot of the mountains to share his company. The hermit's oldest and dearest friend. The old man's friend would would make this journey every day just to see their friend, check on him, and enjoy his fresh Oolong tea. For decades, they continued this ritual of tea and conversation.
One day, however, this ritual was broken. The old man was shocked to find that his friend did not appear with the rising sun, as he had grown so used to. No matter, he thought to himself, I will wait. And so he waited, but his friend did not show at noon. Stalwart, he resolved to continue waiting. But his friend's presence was unfelt even into the evening. They did not show the following day, or the next, or for many days after. Yet the old man waited every day for his dear friend. The leaves changed color. Once. Twice. Three times. Every day, the hermit sat on his porch waiting to see the silhouette of his friend off in the distance. One fateful morning as the sun's rays painted his porch, the old man jumped to his feet! Peering off into the distance as he had done hundreds of times now, he spotted a familiar figure waving excitedly and grinning from ear to ear. In tears, the old man hurriedly ran over and embraced his friend, weeping wordlessly with him as they laughed like schoolchildren. When the tears had dried and the laughter had settled, he clasped his friend once again and leaned forward to whisper gently in his ear.
"I was afraid you would not return, my friend! It has been so long, even the tea has aged. Truly, it has been far tOOLONG."
