Literally “Green Snail Spring” for it's literal resemblance to rolled green snails and early spring harvest time. One might view this as a cousin to Gunpowder Green due to it's hand rolled nature and fresh leafy flavor. As legend has it, this tea was originally named 吓煞人香: "scary fragrance" or "the fragrance that scares people". One day, however, a man visited Lake Tai where this tea was produced and thought "this tea is pretty good, and the name... isn't so good". That man was the Kangxi Emperor, and a guy like that gets to call the shots-- and so he renamed it to 碧螺春.
